1476 is a reception and a ritual. It is reflection and progression. It is a murder and a casting out. 1476 is growth and finality. It is passion and burning. It is essence and omnipotence. 1476 is a duality and a trinity. It is extreme and multifaceted. It is rain and introspection. 1476 is a demon with many faces, a Dionysian hunger, and a hanging from the World Tree. We are the doorway. |

The Accident That Led Me To The World is an all-acoustic, non-percussive chamber folk trio from Massachusetts. The name was derived from a song that band member Mark Mandeville (guitar, banjo, vocals) wrote called "The Accident That Led Me To The World," which he then elaborated into the concept of an allegorical narrative involving a boy who sails away to an island to be alone. From this concept sprung an entire album's worth of songs, and Mandeville incorporated Raianne Richards (guitar, clarinet, vocals) and Zack Ciras (upright bass) to flesh out the material. |

By claiming such varied and genre-defining artists as Siouxsie and the Banshees, PJ Harvey, DJ Shadow and Led Zeppelin as cornerstones, Amber Spyglass evoke sentiments from a variety of minor-key rock sub-genres. From the complex organic rhythms and middle-eastern motifs of "Catalyst Groove" to the kinetic pop of "Hand in Position" exists a common thread: the seductive vocals of Kelly Godshall accompanied by a chameleon of guitar, John DeGregorio (x-Opium Den, Reflecting Skin, Annette Farrington). |

Similar to artists Jim O'Rourke and Kaki King, Boston-based Animatronique's music is both atmospheric and compelling in nature. The debut album "Stasis" is a collection of post-rock instrumentals that run the gamut from peaceful and introspective to distorted and pugncious. Songs are furnished with haunting samples, ethereal electric guitars, and dynamic percussive elements, while the acoustic guitar is the nucleus of each piece. |

The Autumn Hollow Band is an Americana four-piece derivative of its Boston roots and the collaborative musicianship of Brendan Murphy, Todd Sampson, Scott Marucci, and Mike Burke. They’ve split their three year tenure between playing live, encouraging the fellowship of area roots musicians and recording their first album. The resultant album is a mish-mash of the Grateful Dead and The Band, more Wilco than Son Volt, but is a sound all their own. The Autumn Holler gents make you want to flick a Bic, raise a beer and sing along. |

Did you know that only 1% of the "deep ocean" has been explored by man? We know as much about the ocean as we do about space, time, and the Large Hadron Collider. This leaves many questions unanswered; hence the motivation behind the Big Blue Octopus. All of their music stems from the deep places of the ocean (such as the serenely venereal Mariana's Trench), and contain interesting entities such as purple crocodile turtles, singing umbrella sandwiches, pincher-toads, collossal squid-manatees, and, of course, the illusive big blue octopus. They greatly appreciate your interest and hope you have a good day. |

In 2007 Bostonian guitarist, singer and songwriter Rick Frauton set out to assemble a band of like-minded bohemians. The goal was simple: to pursue a shared passion for music with good friends. Rick soon met drummer and co-conspirator David Fried and the two hit it off with an undeniable musical rapport. Talented and stylish keyboardist Pete Danilchuk joined BIG TREES in 2011. “We love making music together,” says Rick. “Each of us has a responsibility to hold down the groove without overplaying. We value aural space just as much as the notes that divide it, so it is our mutual goal to create that space and allow the songs to breathe." The result is a unique blend of thoughtful lyrics set to simple melodies and supported by rich layers of organic instrumentation, all with an undying devotion to the almighty groove. BIG TREES' genre-bending sound incorporates elements of rock, reggae and jazz to form an eclectic style all their own. October 2009 marks the release of their debut EP "By the Sea," a digitally-mastered analog recording now available on CD. Plans for 2011 include writing, recording, collaborating, rehearsing, and performing. Keep an ear out for BIG TREES as they embark upon the Boston music scene. |

Growing up in the Boston area in the 80's and 90's, Laura was heavily influenced by the urban folk revival that came out of the Cambridge scene, including such artists as Shawn Colvin, Ellis Paul, Patty Griffin, and Dar Williams. Chillgroove began as Tim Casey (aka Doctor X), Hayim Kobi and Kerry Maxwell getting together on sundays, plugging in tons of guitars, software synths, and hardware synths, and improvising. Tim is a pop music freak a la The Beatles, Hayim was born and raised in the Mideast and has a deep love of Arabian beats (and a closet full of rare instruments to boot) as well as the latest software synths, and Kerry is from Venus - he owns more music than you've ever heard, he builds his own guitar stompboxes, and his influences aren't even necessarily from the world of music. Additionally, Glenn Williams has been graciously lending Chillgroove his skills on bass, guitar, synths, and harmonies, turning Chillgroove into a potent multimedia quintet of world / electronic / ambient / acoustic music. They're also into visuals; every show uses stunning video projections which are synchronized to the music. |

C-Luk still manages to be a refreshing presence in the underground hip hop scene. He has a drawn a number of comparisons in his career and these simply serve to reflect his own influences: enlightening his audiences like KRS-One, bringing satirical humor and potent delivery like Eminem, and possessing the quiet swagger of a street savvy gentleman, a quality that Jay-Z exemplifies and C-Luk takes after. His poetic ability and wordplay would rival the best in the industry and has drawn praise from the likes of Michael Bivins who could find no other words to describe C-Luk besides, “that boy is crazy!” |

Coo & Howl is a 5-person collective of family members and friends, most of whom have performed together in Boston bands for the last ten years. These close musical partnerships have allowed the band to develop a uniquely collaborative writing style. Each song is balanced by a tension between influences—and hints at recognizable genres without falling prey to the conventional trappings of any particular one. Even a casual listen to either of the band's EPs (Water Came & Cooled Us All, Esses) offers a rewarding experience that covers a lot of sonic ground. Shifting subtly between folk, psychedelia, blues and classical, the music twists and turns without sacrificing a pop-oriented focus on melody. A more careful listen reveals the band's obsessive attention to composition and arrangement. Layers of little sounds bring the songs to life, and betray a real love of the recording process. |

When singer Gracie Curran and bassist Geoff Murfitt teamed up in 2006 is can only be explained as wrong place at the wrong time, but luckily the two kept in touch. When Curran reemerged onto the scene (after a brief bout with real life) in 2009, she broght along guitarist Tommy Carroll (Berklee, Blind Billy & The Spectacles, Coupe Deville) and drummer Joe Bellomo (Berklee, Child Support Blues Band, Cindy Daley). The band played their first show on February 5, 2010 at Kings Boston to a packed house along with some stellar guest musicians. And just like that, High Falutin' came roaring onto the scene. In months following High Falutin' has been playing to packed houses from Boston to places other than Boston. Their tight musicianship, hot fiery guitar licks, willingness to have a good time, and tatsy grooves have been exciting crowds at venues throughout New England, including a very special show at The House of Blues Boston in October 2010 and as finalists in the 2010 Boston Blues Challenge. |

It smells like old beer and bathroom disinfectant. The decor looks the same as it did when Truman was President. The crowd looks like it goes from 18 to 80 in age. They say they don't much care for blues music but what is happening on stage is getting them very excited. The singer is singing about the virtues of whipped cream and maple syrup and hitting it from behind. At times she's sounding like Etta James or Koko Taylor or Big Mama Thornton; all singers that inspired Janis Joplin. Other times she is sounding like she just left church after singing lead in the choir. The bass and drums move along like a rock steady locomotive playing electrified delta blues. The harp player is playing notes so thick and dirty it's scary. The guitar is raw and primitive. A juke joint in the 50's in Clarksdale, Mississippi? Helena, Arkansas? Or even Chicago? No this is in a bar outside of Boston Massachusetts. The year is 2010. And the band? The band is The Dirty Mac Blues Band. |

Yet sometimes he wishes he could unsee things. He'll expertly program music to accompany people who are trying to look like they're doing something important on their laptops. And, he'll even reserve some choice twee cuts for the notebook doodlers. As the evening evolves, he'll have people wriggling out of their shells to spazz out to the new-wave-synth-pop-punk-indie-garage-type stylings that are all the rage! |

DJ Zombi has had a fascination with dance music since adolescence, splicing together club mixes from Vinnie Peruzzi's KISS 108 dance show using a dual-deck cassette player. This blossomed into a love of electronic and techno music, as well as DJ culture, as he entered the rave scene in the early 1990s. During the mid-1990s DJ Zombi was co-host of WUNH's "Non-Stop", a radio show devoted to the obscure New Wave and No Wave tracks of the late 1970s and early 1980s. This led to a short stint as an 80s DJ with his Non-Stop partner DJ Entox at the Elvis Room in Portsmouth, NH just before it closed its doors. Simultaneously, he was breaking in as a vinyl DJ at house parties, and a CD DJ doing guest spots at the now-defunct Club 1 North. A move to Boston intended to further his DJ career actually ended up seeing Zombi put DJing on the backburner, but it always remained a hobby. It wasn't until he moved to the Massachusetts North Shore area that he picked up DJing again as a profession. Since then, DJ Zombi has been guest DJ at The Common Ground in Allston, Darq in Salem, and the one-off Flashback night at the Tabu Lounge in Saugus. Additionally, he has opened for the likes of Louie Austen, Freezepop, Bow Ever Down and Sonik Foundry. For nearly two years, he was co-resident DJ (with his partner, DJ Alvis) at the enormously popular Wonderland LGBTeadance at the Gulu-Gulu Cafe in Salem, MA. He is currently co-resident DJ (again with DJ Alvis) at the monthly Decade: 80s Night at the Bangkok Paradise, also in Salem. He finds it strange to write about himself in the third person. |

The two-headed mystery that is Chapel Perilous/Dr. Nemo Spaceman and The Legion Of Superclowns, is akin to a relic from outer space that contains mysterious beings that at once infect, transform, and bring an astonishing salvation. Chapel Perilous is the dark alien artifice that throbs like the mysteries of space, both inner-and outer. A trinity of musicians from infinity. Patrick McKormick, Jeff LaFontante, and Brian Donnelly, channel the alien minds of higher and lower frequencies to set the tone of the evening. Dr. Nemo Spaceman (musician, magician, meta-physician, herald of the Mythic Munkybunny, psycho-naut, and superclown), along with his cultus The Legion Of Superclowns, come prismatically exploding into your consciousness. All the while, the tricksters of tonality known as The Legion Of Superclowns, will perform a mystic ritual that results in never-before seen colors and laughter that can shatter the weight of your dark soul! |

When Jean-marie performs, he is sharing his love for diversity, blending the cultural colors of original music with his audience. We are trying to be a cover band but I keep on writing songs and then I have to practice them with The Great Buriers and by then we've spent so much time practicing a song that we might as well go the studio and record it and then it seems like we should play the songs at shows cause we're makin' records with all my spare cash but I don't know how to sell records much less make them and I really like trading demos with other bands so it's cool to have a cd of your band to trade and if it sounds good you're a little more proud to give it to someone. If only Michael MacDonald would come see us at our Abbey residency then maybe we could get him to sing backup on our record and then people would wanna buy it, because that guy comes up with some catchy hooks, but he sings them so smooth. The Great Buriers can be a stylish accessory for fundraisers, hellraisers, food fights, drinking binges, tribal dance lessons, and third-party membership drives. |

Still a budding band, Hannah & The Bloodlines have already proven themselves to be an asset to the New England music scene. A band that has excelled in the studio, and have taken it to a whole other level live can easily accomplish this toilsome task. Combining the catchiness and marketability of pop, the control and intricacy of a jazz group, and the edge and attitude of a rock band, The Bloodlines are in a class of their own. Each member is so remarkable and unique in his or her own right, Hannah Sumner, Stephen Gaspar, Jeremy Vovcsko, Ryan Broderick, and Cory Sterling set this band miles apart from their competition. If bets were being taken on bands that will define our generation, put your money on Hannah & The Bloodlines, because it is only a matter of time before The Bloodlines change music forever. |

John Nicholls returns to the Gulu-Gulu! And he's brought some some friends along - Hell or High Water! We play americana music. We'll play anywhere we can and have a blast doing it. |

A nimble, stripped-down five-piece rock-country-pop band reminiscent of something along the lines of "Harvest"-era Neil Young meets Jack Johnson. While the emphasis will always be on songs, the ensemble's energy, ability to improvise, and habit of tossing in fun covers, make it a top-notch act not to be missed. |

I began vigorously playing solo nylon and 12-string guitar around New England and in New York. I was composing and arranging for these instruments under the influence of.. Ralph Towner, Egberto Gismonti.., and ..Sandy Prager... This style of playing was intriguing to me because of the subtleties and intimacies of solo guitar, coupled with the fact that not many people were doing this. .. .. I later went on to form the group.. Orchestra of This.., an acoustic world fusion jazz quartet consisting of Brian O'Neil on multi-percussion set-up, Alec Derian on double bass, Alec Spiegleman on woodwinds and myself on guitars. We played a lot of really great rooms in and around Boston. Brian also makes a hell of a Tiki drink. |

Salem’s very own Mary Lou Lord began her career as a professional musician of sorts by accident really. Playing music in streets and subways for many years, getting better at it, and always being a fan of great songs and the people who made them up being first and foremost. Being in the right place at the right time helped her career along but she did most of the footwork herself without ever having to rely on promises from record companies. Her music was mostly heard over the years in "real time"...she made a living not by record sales, but by live performances. It was done ONE SONG AT A TIME, mainly at the Park St. T station. |

Match by Match was started almost by accident in March of 2010 when, due to random technological chance, Gray (of Red Lanterns) and Melissa met via internet chat. Realizing they were both frustrated by the lack of opportunity to make the kind of music they wanted to hear, they started collaborating, Gray playing guitar and Melissa playing accordion and piano. Eventually, they recorded a demo EP, "Books," played several shows up and down New England, and generally created a ruckus. Somewhere along the way, they relocated to Ann Arbor and started wearing formalwear, not in that order. |

"God, we love deep male voices sad music. Tindersticks, Willard Grant Conspiracy, Leonard Cohen, the Magnetic Fields, Nick Cave. Playing in this league is M who sings and writes for the band the Milling Gowns. There's no guitarist in the quartet; pianist Sharon Crumrine is the main instrumentalist. Rail is four musicians, with four distinct musical voices, coming together to create a product that is equal to more than the sum of its parts. The result is a fusion of sorts, but not the typical rock-fusion associated with the 1970's and later. Instead, Rail is a departure from this convention in that the band draws on influences from 80's punk and 90's grunge genres. The "fusion" lies in the integration of these influences with avant-garde jazz vocabulary and a contemporary harmonic sensibility. The material is comprised mostly of compositions written by guitarist Russ Flynn who cites groups such as the Jim Black's Alasnoaxis, the Smashing Pumpkins, My Bloody Valentine and At The Drive-In as major inspirations. Rail also features dynamic reedman Andy Allen and volatile drummer Pete Negroponte. The group is rounded out with Peter Krag, who does double duty by covering bass lines in addition to establishing a chordal foundation throughout the material. |

Rich’s songwriting hits the ears like a midmorning summer shower. His voice is certainly evocative of the moods he tries to create and is perfectly punctuated by his choice of instruments accompanying his mindful strum. Melodically there are flashes of Tim Buckley and Harry Nilsson, but lyrically there is nothing new here. What keeps the music compelling is the arrangement and the production. This isn’t a purist album. Voices drip with echo and the washes of reverb keep the music floating and dreamy, just like a hundred years of summer. |

Over the years her music has evolved into an eclectic form of experimental folk, singer-songwriter indie rock of some alien breed using backwards and forwards loops, finger pianos, and other unique instrumentation. Overall this music blends together her early influences of Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, and Bob Dylan with contemporaries such as Robert Wyatt, Radiohead, the Flaming Lips, Wilco, Steroelab, Beck, and Arcade Fire. "Ryan is like Joni Mitchell and Radiohead playing some kind of hybrid indie music that- and this is why her stuff is so good - just doesn't exist anywhere else." (Leo Weekly). |

For as long as he can remember, Jeff has been finding pleasure in telling stories, drawing pictures, scratching out poetry and scribbling prose. These days, he's attempting to do all of these things through music. He hears soul, folk, jazz, and rock and roll echoing all around him, all the time, in coffee shops and bar rooms, on late night trains and on the open road, out on the trail and at home. He's hoping to contribute to the big symphony. |

"There are players out there and there are artists... Sierra is an artist. She has so much raw talent and feel. These are things that can't truly be taught, you either have it or you don't. I've worked with some of the top people in the industry, including U2, Madonna, Earth Wind and Fire, and many others, and feel like I know real talent when I hear it." - Mike McKnight. |

Skyjelly is a musical project called Skyjelly. It's a solo thing (as in just him) that started as a RISD project. It's sort of a noisy, trancy, arabic, dancey, loopy, almost quasi-dj kind of thing. Skyjelly has recently signed a deal with a london indie label called Seriously Groovy. And that is groovy as well. |

Go to thesneakymister.blogspot.com for nearly-daily news and free downloads and crap... ..Anyway:.... The Sneaky Mister is my (Judith's) primary music project. For awhile it got shoved to the side as all Sneaky Mister songs ended up as songs for The Alphabet/Pretty Balanced, a long-time collaboration with a coupla buddies, which recently disbanded..... As a result The Sneaky Mister is now finally performing, about to release an album called ..Is This a Thing?.. (around June) and very likely to be seen all over Columbus with various friendly musician types. Keep an eye on the shows schedule and the blog as there will be many and frequent updates in the weeks to come.

"Imagine walking into a subterranean lounge where candles light your way as you descend a narrow, uneven stairwell. With each step, you become increasingly enveloped in smooth, funky sounds that are dark, sexy, and a bit ethereal. Such is the sound and mood on Sparrow’s EP, View, where the female-fronted band offers songs that bring to mind the sound of Zero 7 tunes mixed with Sophie Barker and Sia Furler. Vocalist, songwriter and keyboardist on the album, Christine De Michele wears a number of hats, and she wears them well. She does not do it alone, though, as driving drums and swirling, echoing guitars offer great counterpoints." - Performer Magazine (Dec 07) |

Sultry melodies move like a freight train, raw bass lines shake the ground beneath you, an eerie music box chimes far away. Stroamata evokes curiosity. Often compared to Paramore and Florence and the Machine, Stroamata has been described as “Muse with female vocals.” Dara Eagle’s powerful voice floats over the epic rock and roll landscapes. Stroamata's style can only be described as a heavy and unique groove which evolves into overdriven emotive rock. Their audience has been quoted saying that what they like most about Stroamata is that you can't put your finger on them. Stroamata has won the Harpoon UFO Best
Unfiltered Band Contest in 2009 and have been mentioned in the Boston Globe, Weekly Dig and throughout the internet. With 5 years of local experience in the Boston area, Stroamata is ready to enter the national and international indie rock scene. |

Jenn Taranto is a singer, first and foremost. Her music, at this early point in her career, has been very mellow, ambient and serious and relies heavily on violins and vocal harmonies. Jenn's debut album, Move on from Me, released in May 2006, was recorded in her apartment and reflects the serious and obsessive part of Jenn's personality. Most songs explore common themes such as her behavior in relationships and her inability to let things go. Dan MacIntosh of Indie-Music.com wrote, "There is a sadness and a beauty to Jenn Taranto's music, and it's not always clear which of these two distinct descriptions will have the final say." |

Hi everybody! Now that Spring is finally here we’re ready to come out of hibernation…so I want to take a second and introduce to you the new band members! First off, on violin, the amazing Masami Rodriguez, the only person I know that can transcribe an entire song note for note (all parts) on sheet music on the way to a gig in the car….next, on vocal harmonies, the incredible Afton Cotton, the only person I know that can juggle a full time job, a Masters degree at Harvard, a canning business, and a band at the same time, and finally our most recent addition to the band, on cello, the incomparable Kristy Foye, the only person I know that can conduct an entire orchestra and still have the energy to play a gig with the band the same night. So that’s our new band called “Walter and the Night Owls”. We’ll be playing some shows around Boston while we’re gearing up to record our debut full length album beginning of July. Hope to see you at a show soon. -Walter |

Nick Zaino’s music appreciation began around age ten with Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Kenny Rogers, and took a hard turn when he discovered The Beatles, Rush, and cheese metal in junior high. All of that influenced him as a musician, first as a drummer and then as a guitar player, when he first started writing mostly terrible odes to girls he didn’t have the guts to speak to directly. More recently, he’s been playing around Boston, writing and recording rock, Americana, alt.country, or whatever the hell you want to call it. He has played Irish pubs and created a digital version of himself to perform in Second Life, mostly as a singer/songwriter solo act. His EP, Here’s A Moon, is available at ReverbNation.com. |
